See the Okabu Launch trailer!

We’re excited to present the launch trailer for Okabu, our brand new title coming to PlayStation 3 (via PlayStation Network in 2011).

Okabu follows the adventures of Kumulo, Nimbe and the cloud-flying heroes as they battle to save their people and their world from the industrialized threat of the Doza. The world of Okabu is a hyper-tactile toybox filled with a huge number of puzzles, playthings, adorable creatures and devious machines –all spread across an epic co-op campaign.

Indie Games Arcade and Okabu

With the Indie Games Arcade hitting London on the 1st-3rd October (at the Eurogamer Expo) we were delighted to have the opportunity to take part in the show and to be able to show Okabu to the world and get valuable feedback from all the players visiting the show. As can so often happen with Indie Games development, we’ve had a bit of a setback – over the last few weeks we came to realise that we needed to make some very significant changes to our engine to hit the levels of performance that we were looking for, and so made the decision to perform major heart surgery on Okabu. We’ve been rapidly trying to get it up to peak physical condition in time to show at the IGA, but sadly it looks like its not going to reach the quality level that the IGA deserves in time. As a result we’ve had to make the very difficult to not show Okabu.

We’re hugely grateful to David Hayward and PixelLab/Mudlark for giving us the opportunity and organising the IGA, providing great support for indies and UK and beyond. We’ve very sorry to have to pull out of the show, but look forward to attending and checking out all of the awesome indie titles on display.

Join the Okabu Team – Level Designer Wanted!

Help the creators of Rolando with our next game. Join the small team in our central London studio to help create our forthcoming downloadable console title, Okabu. Using our in-house tools, you will help craft a hyper-tactile toybox world filled with a huge number of puzzles, playthings, adorable creatures and devious machines.

In addition to level design, you will contribute to the overall design of Okabu, suggest new gameplay features, help with user testing, and being a small team probably all manner of other things.

We’d consider the position on either a contract of permanent basis. Passion for creating great games a must! We’d love to hear from you – drop us an mail at hello@handcircus.com.

A new HandCircus home

We are delighted to have moved our online selves into this brand new home, and are busy unpacking after the amazing decoration, design, architecture and construction efforts of Pete, Daniel and Mikko. Its going to serve us well for delivering all HandCircus news, screens, trailers, and videos of cute animals doing unexpected things that we find on the internet.

For the last nine months we’ve been busy working on our new game Okabu, building a brand new world, and creating all manner of exotic characters, creatures and contraptions to fill it with. It’s been a more ambitious undertaking than our previous games, but we’re really excited with how its been progressing and can’t wait to show it off a little later this year. For more information, keep an eye on this blog and on our Twitter Feed.

There’s already a few clues dotted around the site – take a look at the big image at the top and you might see a few characters you don’t recognise!
