Rolando Update

Big apologies for the lack of updates on Rolando. Things have been progressing really well - the world of Rolando has been populated by all manner of new additions - slime pits, cannons, piranhas, evil spiders, torches and much more. I do plan to cut another video soon, but in the meantime, here are a few screenshots to whet your appetite!

P.S. It will be in review for about 2 weeks before anyone can buy it on the store.

  15. asd Says:

GO please release it!!!! cant wait all days lokking at appstore =(

  16. Magnus Nordlander Says:

Realest it: That’s the way crappy apps do it. I’d say release when it’s done but before you start adding all the “Gee-wouldn’t-it-be-cool-if”-features. Good things are worth waiting for.

  17. Adam Says:

Are you looking for beta testers? I cannot tell you how excited I am for this game. And hey, if its not ready to go, keep sayin hi and telling us how its comin along. We are all pretty interested as you can tell.

  18. lover Says:

so news?? summer is finishing :D
cant wait release it (apple will take like 2weeks to review it):
    and after use updates
Quote Adam: “Are you looking for beta testers? “

  19. Zapple Says:

    PLEASE RELEASE IT!!!!!!
I dont care if it makes my IPhone crash every 2 minutes or even if it causes seizures i ,and i think everyone else would agree, just want to play this game.

  20. Alex Says:

Hey i was wondering if you were going to maybe have any sort of beta testing for this game, it is by far the best looking game for the iphone and it looks like it would be amazingly simple to pick up and play…

anyway, back to the beta, for some other apps developers have seeded out a beta of their aps to a number of iphone users… (i think graffito did this… the maximum number of beta testers is 100) all you would need is some serial number or whatnot from the iphone, and then the beta testers would be able to download your beta copy

i think that it would be in your interest to have some people test it out before it is officially released in the app store… because (even go and look) in the app store many apps have recieved poor reviews because there were glitches that could easly be fixed in a version update

also, if i were you i would NOT release a free demo in the app store alongside the main game… because most people will just get the demo and “make it last”… i found out that the loco-roco demo lasted me long enough that i didnt really anticipate buying the full game (i did eventually buy the full game, but the demo had 1 full level, so i felt like i shouldn’t buy the game until i could get a 100% on the demo level)

anyway, good luck finishing Rolando, it looks amazing now, and i can guarantee it will be even better when it is released!

  21. Phil Says:

When is this going to be released? Summer is almost done!

  22. boyo Says:

Yo! Man, im gonna kill someone if this game doesn’t come out!!! I want it!!!

  23. Stefan Says:

Give us some indication of the release date man! You can’t ignore use, we’ll be your customers some day. I know a game is never finished and designers always keep on adding more details and depth. But you’ve said to use summer, and is summer is near its end…

  24. handcircus Says:

Hey guys, once again sorry for the lack of updates - I’m not trying to ignore you all! I’m not quite ready to state a definite release date yet - I know its getting towards the end of summer, but I really don’t want to rush the release. Thanks so much for all your interest - I will try to post more news as soon as I can. I am working on it full-time and progress is going very well :)

  25. Stefan Says:

Thanks! That’s what we wanted to know. Keep up all the hard work.

  26. Phil Says:

how much is it going to cost??

  27. Lungo Says:

Maybe you may change the text on Rolando site? I mean «Coming Summer 2008» :)

  28. Lapixx Says:

    Take your time, I’d say…
Nobody’s happy with a half-finished game, and you probably want your game to be perfect by the time you release it.

Looking at screens and vids, this will be one of the first REAL mobile games for iPod/iPhone. Appart from those 2, most mobile games for, for example the PSP, aren’t real mobile games, but more a port from a PC game. This looks simply great, and it’s even better when you realize that it’s made by an individual game developer (=

I can’t wait either, but, take your time ;)

  29. izzy Says:

come on! I’ve been waiting for this game for months and in case you haven’t noticed, summer is now over. so where is it!?!?

  30. sparks Says:

Summer isn’t over until the end of september, so there’s still hope…

It would be nice to get some actual news though. If you don’t know a release date then that’s fine, but at least give us some updates about how development has been going, maybe some new features, bug fixes, etc.

  31. handcircus Says:

Yep, well development has been going great, we’ve been refining the control system, adding in all manner of new obstacles, enemies, puzzles and much more in all the worlds and levels. The core engine is pretty much feature complete, the code stable, all running at a solid 30 FPS. The remaining work is creating the remaining levels and getting Rolando to a point where its easy to pick up, really polished and great fun to play. We’re trying to concentrate on adding real variety to the levels rather than heavily re-using existing game elements - it will be a little while until its ready to release. More news as I have it :)

  32. Dale-Anthony Says:

I’m really looking forward to this game, actually it’s the only game I want on my iPhone so can’t wait until it’s released.

Any chance of releasing another teaser trailer to keep us all amused for a while?

    Keep up the good work!

  33. Magnis Says:

    THIS GAME LOOKS FREAKING AMAZING!

i honestly dont think i can wait much longer…/:
hopefully it is released before the end of the month!

any news on the release date?
even a rough ballpark date would be fine with me:D

  34. lime Says:

    it’ll be $10 right?

  35. Alex Says:

Hey, if you are crunched for time don’t release it before it is ready… if it doesn’t come out before the end of summer i am sure no one would mind… but maybe try to get it released before the end of the year…
    :D

  36. cezar chevez Says:

    Im starting to lose interest…..
i have been waiting since june and its really getting old.
its like when your expecting a parcel in the mail but it never comes.
its driving crazy waiting for it.

  37. Adam Says:

@cezar: yeah whatever, when it comes out, you know you’ll buy it. MAKE ME A BETA TESTER PLEASE. I LOVE YOU!!!

  38. boyo Says:

Alright, I told you I was gonna kill someone. It’s September, your late. Im gonna kill a homeless guy tonight! Every week your late with the game, I will kill one homeless person!

  39. Dale-Anthony Says:

Cezar, come on, give the guy a break, I’m sure he’ll release it when it’s ready. If he releases it now and it’s really buggy you’re only going to complain more.

Yeah, I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to get it on my iPhone but complaining at someone who is working hard (probably in their spare time) isn’t going to get it released faster.

  40. Adam Says:

Good call re-releasing the trailer with the controls shown more prominently. I cannot get that damn song outta my head!!!

  41. Alex Says:

Hey can we have another site update?
I feel like posting on this page any time i want to reach you is getting old

(a new video would be nice:D)

  42. bill Says:

I will never understand why the video game industry is the only one where you can ripp off the others without having law issues…….. I mean here it s so obvious it s really a shame !
I’m happy of course because this game looks great but can’t help feeling bad about the fact you didn’ t even came out with your own design at least for the graphics.

  43. Adam Says:

    @bill
Dude, its just an aesthetic. He didnt rip it off, and the play dynamics are FAR more interesting from what I can tell. THey are flat blocks of color. You cant copyright that, nor should you be able to. Don’t worry, handcircus, we love you.
